lino-block printing, part one

So, my friend Kristie bought me a linoleum block and a cutting kit for my birthday. At first, I didn’t know what it was, but when I figured it out, I was ecstatic. So, yesterday morning I carved my first design, and I just printed it on some blank cards with acrylic paint. I’m pleased with it. Sure, it could be better, but it’s not too shabby. Next time I’ll remember that more texture is ok, and also that whatever I carve will be backwards when I print it. That’s something that didn’t occur to me. Yes, I know it’s obvious.

AND, about the iPhone…considering they announced a newer, much cooler version will be available on June 19, I think I’m going to wait it out (even though my phone is in two pieces). I just hope I can make it to the store that day and get one before they’re all snatched up. That’s my biggest concern.

Finished, at last!

My friend Erin asked me probably about two years ago to paint  something for her kitchen area. I’m not a painter. I paint things for myself and our apartment as a hobby, but they are usually abstract and very quick projects. I don’t consider myself very good at painting realistic portraits and the few times I’ve tried, my patience have worn thin and in a matter of minutes I’ve aborted the project.

Having said all that, I’m very proud of my painting. Yes, it took me a very long time to complete, and I’m sure Erin gave up hope long ago, but I did finish it. Yay! The outcome makes me very happy. Maybe I’m turning over a new leaf and learning to be patient. Maybe.
